What to Expect at Your First Gynecological and Fertility Consultation
Taking the first step toward motherhood can come with many emotions—hope, nervousness, excitement… and plenty of questions. At Baja Fertility Services, we understand how important this moment is for you, which is why we want to clearly explain what you can expect at your first gynecological and fertility consultation.

More Than a Medical Visit: A Real Opportunity
This appointment is your opportunity to assess your reproductive health, identify possible causes of infertility (if any), and develop a personalized plan that aligns with your needs, timing, and dreams.
Whether you’ve been trying to conceive for some time or are just beginning to explore your options, a gynecological and fertility evaluation can help detect factors that may interfere with conception—even in women who seem completely healthy.
When Should You Schedule a Consultation?
Guidelines from the ASRM (American Society for Reproductive Medicine) and ESHRE (European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology) recommend starting fertility testing if pregnancy hasn’t been achieved after:
-
12 months of unprotected intercourse
-
6 months if you are over 35 years of age
You can also seek a consultation earlier if you have medical history, prior surgeries, irregular menstrual cycles, or if you simply want to understand your ovarian reserve.

What does the first consultation include?
During your first visit, you’ll receive comprehensive care that includes:
Full medical history: age, personal and family background, menstrual cycle patterns, symptoms, previous surgeries, and length of time trying to conceive.
Pelvic ultrasound (transvaginal or abdominal if needed): the uterus, ovaries, and endometrium are evaluated to detect possible conditions such as fibroids, polyps, cysts, or anatomical abnormalities.
Development of your personalized plan
Based on the information gathered, our medical team will design a diagnostic and treatment plan that may include:
-
Natural monitoring
-
Lifestyle changes
-
Hormonal testing
-
Imaging studies
-
Specific treatments
Additional studies (if needed)
Some tests are not performed during the first consultation but may be necessary depending on your clinical case:
-
Hormonal tests: FSH, LH, estradiol, TSH, prolactin, AMH
-
Anatomical evaluations: hysterosalpingography, sonohysterography
-
Male fertility evaluation: semen analysis
-
Genetic testing: in cases with suspected hereditary factors
These studies are only recommended if medically justified, following clinical criteria and international guidelines.
What happens next?
After the initial assessment, you’ll have a clear picture of your reproductive health. In some cases, treatment may begin in the very first cycle. In others, it may be necessary to create the ideal conditions or complete further tests. You will always be supported, and your plan will be tailored to your specific goals.
Taking control of your health
Attending a gynecological and fertility consultation does not mean something is wrong. It means you’re taking charge of your health and moving closer—well-informed and well-supported—to your dream of becoming a mother.
